So I just read a preview of a new RTS game, by Ubisoft, and I saw some similarities with ideas we had on this forum. What a coincidence, eh?  Smiley

(the preview is from Power Unlimited, the Dutch games magazine)

But there are things we do know. The story, for example. It's the year 2020 and the Third World War is about to start. A few superpowers, among them the US, Europe and Russia, are fighting over the last remaining natural resources on earth.

... That probably means that you won't be able to control every unit individually. Rather, you will give groups of soldiers, tanks, choppers and bombers a few tactical objectives. These units will probably have a high level of intelligence, so that you won't have to tell them every single little instruction. About time, if I say so myself.

Another trend within modern strategy games is the removal of resource management, so you won't be spending an hour digging gold from mines

Probably coincidental; these have been themes and concepts that people have been looking into for a while now.

That game would have had to have been well underway when those posts were made, anyways.

well duh, i'm not so bold to actually think that the developers have gotten ideas from this forum Tongue
however, it's sort of a confirmation that our idea's are realistic, not some unfounded ideas that wouldn't work out in reality

You never know; while publishers seem to keep their heads up their @$$es, devs seem to be aware that fans can often have the best ideas, the trick being to implement them well.  I don't think developers go out to boards like these to hunt for ideas, but I do believe that they do their fair share of browsing, and when they do find a good idea - regardless of its source - they try to find a way to use it.

I would not deem it impossible at all, just highly unlikely.  Where it becomes less impossible is if these ideas were repeated on several forums, and some people who read them repeated them in turn.  This is how good ideas spread, and you never know when by some machinations of fate you were the source of something amazing.  That's really the wonder of the internet, so many connections, and yet after one or two jumps their origins are very difficult to trace.

I don't think any ideas are impossible, it's implementations of such ideas that are flawed or unworkable.
