haha - thats so me -  Firefox

anyway

i was thinking... because the engine is supposed to be good for anything... game would have much more than it currently has... for example... if someone wants to make a modern rts on it... units wont take cover... and he has to figure out some crap with tanks, cars and guns.

What im saing is... as i understand its a slice em kinda rts now :p thats good but there are options...

as a nolife i am i was thinking of stuff and i came down to 3 styles

bunch up and slice em(example from history - Crusades)
line up and shoot em(example from history - Seven Years War)
take cover and flank em(example from history - WW2)

I also though that the first and the last are the most important because its not too hard to modify the first and last to be the middle but thinking game wise a transformation straight from first to last would be pretty weird...

There are also things like Naval and Air Forces(also paratroopers) that would be pretty hard to work out if the official game/example has none or lack of

There are ways around this with you still being able to do what you have planned now Tongue

1. More than 1 Game - This will take a while and a cut of content might be necessary to actually get this done.
2. Age System - Form out a system where factions get new technologies. This would pretty much mean having several different factions out of 1 faction. Would also need a cut at content probably but would add a system that can be used in several ways to the game. It might also lack of fitting into the game unless the games bent.
3. Hidden Factions - Having faction(s) that are not playable in the game but do exist and would work by changing 1 word in the code.

My opinions on these -

1. Good, but would mean having smaller games.
2. Somewhat good, somewhat bad. Would add a system usable for many things to the game but also would need some serious thinking to make it fit. Making it fit with the current story might be somewhat impossible.
3. Easiest and well workable way but might just make you be sad that all that work wont be in the game.  Grin

The team is mostly comprised of post-secondary students, which are doing midterms right now (I don't have many midterms this semester, per say, just a bunch of really huge projects that need to get done).  So if a post is missed, don't take it personally.

As for the support the game will give, be sure to distinguish between the engine and game.  The game will be a demonstration of some of the engine's capabilities; it will not encompass all of them.  We, of course, will want to have this sort of thing supported so people can implement it.  It may be (in fact, if this is popular, it may be quite likely) that we implement other games, and I would definitely prefer to do a variety of eras.  However, you must realize this project is open source.  That means that once we get some momentum, there may well be people interested in making a modern era game who will contribute and edit the engine to support those needs.

We will have navies in this game, by the way, and I'll hazard a guess that it shouldn't be hard to mod an artillery cannon on a boat.  Then all you have to do is change the model and you have a modern warship.

so you are saing that people who want to do a modern game on it will have to edit the engine itself as there are some things that cant be done like a modern warship
