Hey all.... found this site today and immediately registered! Open source rts engine sounds like a genre'-changing development. This site seems to be a little unactive, only a few posts in the last months, but i figure its worth a shot. I'm a floridian college student studying math, physics, and chemistry. Id like to be a help to the project in any way possible but have only limited experience in coding and none with graphics. How are all these projects coming along?

Hi, and welcome.   We're always happy to have new contributors, even if they cannot add towards the actual code of the project.  Don't let the low activity on the boards fool you.  I drop by every day, and (where appropriate) will respond.

You don't need to have too much programming experience to help out.  Programming is just as much about logic and thought process as it is about experience.  Often times it's the inexperienced who don't have preconceived notions of how things should work that develop new and innovative ways of doing things.  I, myself, have no experience with graphics, either, but that doesn't mean I can't help out.

The projects are being delayed by our personal / academic lives.  I've got a simple operating system (now that's an oxymoron -_-) to build over the summer, and that's eating up most of my time, and what's left over I don't exactly want to spend on a second programming project (although I do put forth the effort, and will continue to do so).  However, I would say that slowly and steadily it's taking shape.  I've got an idea of how the Victory engine will "look" in the end, and I believe that it could well be adapted as a RTS engine with only minor modifications.

I don't know what your programming experience is, but if you've worked with the Java language before and have a basic understanding of software design (specifically with regards to object oriented programming), then you shouldn't have any problems.  We don't expect you to be a professional, and if you make any oversights we'll be sure to catch them at a later stage and correct them.  More than anything, this is a learning experience.  I'm learning and doubtlessly making mistakes, as is 2Play.  Don't be afraid to make a few yourself.

PS: feel free to post anywhere.  As I mentioned, I do at least one round per day and there's a good probability I'll respond.

Yes, our current project, the Victory Engine, is written in Java.

It's a pretty straightforward language, and if you have any questions you can always pose them on our general programming board and I'd be happy to answer to the best of my abilities.
